A wine which is alcoholic is one which can be quickly identified in its aroma. It will be heady, and the alcohol may overpower other more delicate perfumes from the fruit.

An alcoholic wine pertains to those wines with an alcohol content that is too high for the desired style of wine. A wine with this characteristic can easily be identified in its aroma and on one's palate. Smelling such a wine will feel heady, as if smelling a distilled spirit. An alcoholic wine wine can also feel weighty and off-balance in relation to fruit characteristics on the palate. These wines are sometimes also called "hot."
